Illinois produces approximately 30,000 acres of cucurbit crops. About 90% of processing pumpkins produced in the United States are grown in Illinois. Phytophthora blight, caused by Phytophthora capsici, is the most serious disease of processing pumpkins and other cucurbit crops in Illinois, casing up to 100% crop losses.
