Fruit and Vegetable Diseases

Bacterial spot of stone fruit. Bacterial spot has been observed on peaches and nectarine in almost all of the commercial stone fruit orchards visited in Illinois. Illinois environmental conditions are very conducive for this disease and effective methods must be applied to minimize the damage caused by the disease. Phytophthora blight of cucurbits, eggplants, and peppers. Phytophthora foliar blight and fruit rot, caused by Phytophthora capsici, has been observed in commercial fields and home gardens of cucumber, cantaloupe, pumpkin, squash, watermelon, zucchini, eggplant, bell pepper, and jalapeno throughout Illinois. The plants should be sprayed with Acrobat 50WP + Copper at first sign of the disease. Acrobat is the only effective fungicide against this disease in Illinois.
