Useful Websit Spary guides and pest management handbooks. Our fruit production and pest management materials are published almost entirely in cooperation with other Midwest states. Plant pathologists, horticulturists, and entomologists from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, and Kentucky are the core working group (the Midwest Fruit Workers group) for these publications; Wisconsin, Missouri, and Kansas also use them. We meet annually to update our pesticide recommendations. Annual "spray guides" are printed at Purdue, but distributed in each state with a cover that bears the state's name, for example, the 2003 Illinois Commercial Tree Fruit Spray Guide and 2003 Illinois Commercial Small Fruit and Grape Spray Guide. The Midwest Fruit Workers group also has published pest management handbooks for small fruit and tree fruit production (the Midwest Small Fruit Pest Management Handbook and Midwest Tree Fruit Pest Management Handbook); these handbooks provide background information on insect, weed, and disease management (life cycles, sampling methods, thresholds, etc.) instead of specific pesticide recommendations. We publish insect, disease, and weed control recommendation for vegetable crops in the Illinois Agricultural Pest Management Handbook; we also serve as contributing authors for the Midwest Vegetable Production Guide for Commercial Growers. Printed copies of these materials are in your packet; the Illinois Agricultural Pest Management Handbook is available on the web.
