There was a very low incidence of leaf
curl in Illinois in 2003. Brown
rot was observed in many peach orchards, causing blossom
blight, fruit rot, and shoot blight. No major incidence of powdery
mildew was observed. Scab
was kept under control. The most prevalent disease in peach and nectarine
orchards in Illinois in 2003 was bacterial
spot . Severe leaf and fruit infection with the bacterium
was observed in all peach growing areas of the state. Peach crop in Illinois
in 2003, however, was great.
