I. Apple Scab

I have seen more apple scab this year in Illinois than the past five years. During the past five weeks, I have observed severe scab infection in the orchards central, western and northern Illinois. With the existing effective fungicides, control of apple scab should not be a difficult task. But in order to effectively control apple scab, fungicides must be applied on time. Apple scab is a season-long disease. But, infection takes places in spring. If it is not controlled in the early season, mid- or late-season applicatons of fungicides will likely not be effective. II. Cucurbit Viral Diseases

In the past three weeks, viral diseases have been observed in cucurbits fields throughout Illinois. Most common viral diseases in Illinois, as well as in the Midwest, are caused by cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), papaya ringspot virus-type W (PRSV-W), squash mosaic virus (SqMV), watermelon mosaic virus(WMV), and zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV). Good news is that there is lew incidence and low severity of viral diseases in Illinois than the past finve year.
