I. Host Range of Phytophthora capsici, Caual of Phytophthora Blight of Vegetacles

A study was conducted to determine the host range of P. capsici isolates from Illinois. 45 species of herbaceous plants, including 36 species of crops grown in rotation sequences with pumpkin and 9 species of weeds that commonly grow in pumpkin fields in Illinois were inoculated in a greenhous and evaluated for infection. 22 crop species and 2 weed species became infected with P. capsici and developed symptoms. 21 crop and weed species did not develop any symptoms of Phytophthora blight and the pathogen was not detected in the plants.
